Change ‘will provide many benefits’

BY DEBBIE GREW

“The Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah is a novel about the Dust Bowl and how individuals and families eked out an existence during the 1930s. One thing that strikes me throughout the book is the genuine love and camaraderie of the characters. This book is historical fiction, but it makes me think about the opportunities we have on June 10 — to vote on a school referendum that will provide much needed improvements to our schools and the town center amendments which will provide affordable housing to seniors.

I have seen signs that say test scores won’t change, maybe not, but how do we know for sure? I believe that improved facilities can make a big difference in student and teacher attitudes.

Although not analogous, the main family in “The Four Winds” moved from a flooded camp to a room with comforts we all know today. Did their circumstances change, no, but their outlook certainly did. With the acute housing shortage in Maine, changes to the town center amendments will allow individuals in need of housing to live in our wonderful community.

Yes, there will be change and I believe, will provide many benefits. My hope is that enough voters will see this as a welcoming move for Cape Elizabeth.

Please join me in voting yes for schools and yes for the town center amendment changes.
